Based in Napa Valley, Richard Wood photographs a tremendous variety of weddings throughout the state of California and beyond. Working together with his wife and studio manager, Victoria, Richard enjoys photographing all types of wedding celebrations ranging from quiet elopements to grand, black-tie events.
Prior to photographing weddings, Richard spent four years at a Motion Picture Film Studio in San Francisco, shooting commercials and music videos. After studying still photography in Napa Valley, Richard returned to San Francisco where he began shooting editorial fashion, as well as the Performing Arts, including the San Francisco Ballet and the rock band U2. His fashion work eventually lead him to bridal gown designers by whom he was commissioned to photograph custom gowns for display in their boutiques. Soon the brides began taking notice of his work and the rest is history. Based almost exclusively on word of mouth, Richard went from photographing six weddings in 1999 to his current rate of nearly one hundred weddings per year!
Because the larger, medium-format cameras proved a little cumbersome for his fast, editorial style of shooting, Richard shoots exclusively in 35mm format with two Nikon cameras. In this style, he is able to take upwards of a thousand photographs of your wedding; shooting both color and black & white/sepia, posed formals and non-posed editorials, bridal portraits, the ceremony and celebration, friends and family, as well as beautiful, fine-art photographs of your flowers, table settings, ambience and the myriad of other details of your wedding day.
After the wedding, Richard carefully edits the photographs to provide
you with up to five hundred of only the highest quality and most flattering
images, which he then thoughtfully arranges in a custom designed,
linen viewbox that is yours to keep. While many brides and grooms
use this Presentation Album to tell the story of their day, Richard
also offers a selection of high-quality, beautifully hand-crafted,
leather-bound custom albums, in which your favorite photographs can
be stylistically displayed for your families and friends.
